About me

Last reflections.

When I found out about this class, I was pretty eager to sign up. I had regularly read Meredith's blog, and this class felt like my one chance to take a class with "celebrity" faculty. (I'll ask for your autograph later.) In October, I had suffered a "crisis of faith" of sorts at the CLA conference in Long Beach. After great presentations by guys like Craig Newmark (the Craig in Craigslist,) and social media expert Shel Israel, the naive questions that followed by the well-seasoned professionals in the audience surprised me in their obtuseness.

Attempts to Block Second Life in Libraries (I know we're done, but...)

They're at it again...this time attempts are being made to block access to Second Life in schools and libraries with DOPA raising its head again.  How do we educate this way?  Even about the issues we all agree on like child safety from predators.  I know we're done, but....

1. How has your view of social software changed since starting the course?
My views have totally changed. Not because I disliked social software, but because I did not know all of the tools available, how to make use of them, and how beneficial they can be to me personally and at work.

Final Week

Since there are quite a few things to cover in this last post I think I might just hit them one by one rather than trying to give an all encompassing answer.

Want to practice for your presentation?

If you feel like you want to practice your presentation for the group project in Elluminate before our session next week, you can contact our Elluminate assistant Michele Martin who said she'd be glad to do one-on-one practice sessions. Her email address is listed on this forum page.

Hope the group project planning is going well and feel free to email me if you have any questions.

This looks really cool

It appears to be a site that aggregates all your web 2.0 stuff so that it is possible to keep up with all your friend's activities across flickr, youtube, etc.

Sorry I had to miss the Elluminate Session last night.  Work conspired against me.

Facebook and Me

I already have accounts both Facebook and Myspace. I chose to do my exercise in Facebook because even though I already had an account, I had not done much with it. I used the browse network feature for the first time and can see how this could be very useful especially in a educational setting. I chose to add the IREAD application to my profile and found it very simple and straight-forward. I was surprised to find that there are other applications for facebook  like librarything that provide a similar service.  It seemed like there was a duplication of efforts there...

Hulu.com - Free TV & Movies Online!

Don't get busted doing this at work, but do check out Hulu to watch episodes of your favorite TV shows or movies.  Some movies are clips but many are full length.  Go here to watch October Sky.  There a place to register on this site, but I did not, I just clicked the title and it started playing!   What will they think of next?!

A question for the group

This post is a little off-topic, having nothing to do with social libraries, but it does have to do with library career choices.  I was hoping for a little advice from some of you who have worked in libraries for longer than I have as I have a job opportunity in front of me that I'm not sure what to do about.
