Blog participation is a valuable opportunity to learn from my classmates. Reading everyone’s ongoing discussions and post on the blog allowed for sharing perspectives, great exchanges of ideas and thoughts based upon our different life experiences, and exploring issues that felt relevant to individuals, even subjects that are not related to the lesson. For me, blogging promote collaborative learning.
I learned that “Blog About What You Are Expert In”. Just like the examples, the bloggers, write about their passions and are aware of what they are blogging. Your blog must be an extension of who you are, your passion and interest..

I found this post on New York Times 'small business' edition to be an interesting read. This New York Times article tells how several people made blogging into a career. It has great examples of blogger's that have stumbled upon different opportunities by writing about their experiences and expertise with great enthusiasm and passion. With my busy schedule, I read blogs sometimes just for fun but never much paid attention to its details and its amazing how these people made money. Maybe one day, I will have something interesting to blog but for now, the way to get better at anything, including communication, is by practicing. Blogging is good practice. J
I think a great time to start
I think a great time to start blogging is when you realize that you have a lot of thoughts and opinions that you'd like to share with others or that you need to process in some way. I drove my husband so crazy talking about library technologies when I was finishing up library school that he suggested I start a blog as an outlet for my ideas. It was nice to have dialogues with others, but also, just writing about my thoughts on certain topics helped me to clarify them for myself.
It is really amazing to think that so many people have made careers out of blogging. I know of a lot of bloggers who make money from advertising on their blogs or whose blogs have led to bigger things. I was offered a book deal (to write Social Software in Libraries) because of my blog. My blog helped me to get the columnist gig I have with American Libraries. I just started writing because I needed an outlet, but it ended up being a great career move. Who would've imagined?!?!?
Meredith--how did people
Meredith--how did people first learn about your blog? Do you have a previous blog post on how it became popular? It would be an interesting read!
Good question, Grace! I think
Good question, Grace! I think I'll write a post about this on my own blog and will let you know when it's up there. :)
That would be great! I think
That would be great! I think new bloggers feel that no one is out there to read their blogs/thoughts (I think so, at least!), so it would be nice to know that this is not always the case.
