If you are doing it not well...

I learned that at when is going to do something, you should do it well. And you should know your audience.  I think it is great that libraries are trying to reach out and touch their communities.  I am even a bigger believer of you (the institution) going to the clientele and giving them what they want or even creating a want in the community.

I think the problem becomes is if are going to do this, you need to do it well. Because it is very easy to come off cheap and amateur when using this software.  While it is one thing to do is in your personal life (and that of course can be bad as well), however when you do it professionally, you should hold whatever you do to a high level.  If something looks cheap or “cheesy” then that is what people will think of the institution you work, and in turn that reflects negatively on you.

It is great to be out there being on the leading edge of technology, however unless you can do it well, then you should really consider if you should be doing it. I think you are going to be “bleeding edge” you better be able to meet a certain level quality then the only bleeding will be your reputation.

So while using and creating vodcasing and screen-casting make sure you are doing it well. If not for your users, then at least for yourself and your institution.

So true, Dan. And doing it

So true, Dan. And doing it right takes a good deal of time and effort. But if it's done unprofessionally or not in a way that engages the user, no one will watch it anyways and the effort will have been wasted.

I agree Dan.  Screencast

I agree Dan.  Screencast should be well thought, you need more time planning the content,  honing your skills and refining the screencast.  People who produce screencast should keep in mind the basic practices of educational multimedia -- that people will learn better when information is presented well.
