tag clouds, mashups

I am not the only person here interested in these new social library tools.  Several of my colleagues are lurking in the shadows of this course. :-)

One of our IT folks has created a mashup, providing photos of the book covers to illustrate our New Books List. This list, with the appropriate pictures, is dynamically generated by a query to the catalog. The user provides date range and/or subject parameters and the New Books List is created for his query.

This person has also experimented with tag clouds for the subject headings in our library catalog.  It’s possible that we can explore allowing users to add their own tags to the catalog records.

Could we link to the mashup

Could we link to the mashup to see it?

Hi Holly, I am sorry -- all

Hi Holly, I am sorry -- all of our internal website is inside a very strong firewall.  So I can't provide a link to the real-time mashup.  The code uses an ISBN number search of Amazon to grab the photo of the targeted new book. When users search our library online catalog for "new books added since xxx date," the search results include bib data (selected fileds) and also displays the photos from Amazon (when available) beside the bib data.  It looks similar to the output of a search in Library Thing,  if you have seen that site.    Best,  Dell
